When the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers take the field in Inglewood, they are playing in the most technically advanced stadium in the world…and the most innovatively designed. Created to capture the Southern California lifestyle, the sports and entertainment venue seamlessly connects the indoors and outdoors. The roof canopy is supported by a space frame structure that covers both the stadium concourse and the adjacent pedestrian plaza, canvassing approximately 290,000 square feet. The outer space frame—designed by DSI Spaceframes with Crown Corr, Inc., and manufactured by DSI Spaceframes— supports 30,000+ unique perforated aluminum panels for light, airflow, and transparency. Steel space frame construction was the ideal solution for the SoFi Stadium roof canopy because it easily accommodates the structure’s long spans of open space and unique geometric shape. DSI Spaceframes’ System III steel space frame was designed, engineered, and manufactured to the unique SoFi Stadium construction and seismic criteria. Designed to withstand a major seismic event, the roof canopy sits on columns with isolators so the ground can move and not impart large accelerations on the roof. While the inside of SoFi Stadium provides the ultimate experience for 100,000-plus fans, its iconic roof canopy is seen by millions of people flying into LAX each year.
SoFi Stadium is the indoor/outdoor home of the Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams. SoFi will host a variety of events year-round, including Super Bowl LVI, the 2023 College Football Championship Game, and the 2028 Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic Games.
The space frame itself comprised of 1,547,670 individual components, 186,849 unique members, and 39,920 unique nodes. As with all DSI Spaceframes’ projects, the SoFi Stadium space frame is proudly Made in the USA using 100% domestic material and conforms to all Buy America and Buy American requirements.
